Grasping Your Innate Power

If you live life thinking people should earn your trust
It might be your own attitude you need to adjust
People won’t go through life catering for you
Even if you wish this weren’t true
It takes two a friendship to make
But only one a friendship to break
Think before you speak
Look before you leap
Consider before you act
And try using a little more tact
There are good people all around you
Even though this news might dumbfound you
Learn to appreciate those who are there
And don’t mistreat them so they no longer care
Past experiences needn’t shape your today
Because you can define happiness your way
You have more power than you might believe
Even if that’s hard to conceive
Open your eyes and you’ll get a surprise
Put yourself in others’ shoes
Because after all you’ve got nothing to lose
Don’t let your life pass you by
With mistrust, bitterness and wondering why
Suffering sought to target you
We all suffer, we’re all in pain, we all have things we rue
Make today your brand-new start
And greet it with optimism in your heart.
