Releasing Your Inner Child

All winter long, I have longed to sled
Watching the neighbors’ kids from our kitchen door
But the little voice inside my head
Kept on telling me, “no more, no more”
Thinking that I was much too old
Not feeling sufficiently bold

Tonight my husband got me a surprise
And as I admired it with shining eyes
I knew that childhood is here to stay
And that I can still sled today

It doesn’t matter what your age
Release your child from its mental cage
Because sometimes that’s what you need
Of such desires you must take heed
