Memories we would rather forget
People we wished we had never met
Pain like this marks us with a scar
But scars like these make us who we are
In a world without suffering, hurt and pain
We’d make the same mistakes time and again
Never learning to appreciate
Not knowing what we’ve got until it’s too late
A heart scabbed over to guard against more heartbreak
Rip off that scab and shake yourself awake
Never be afraid to feel
To admit your hurt and pain are real
If you admit this, you can move on
Though painful memories will never be gone
But they’re in the past
And you’re living for today
Sometimes that’s the only way
Be happy, be sad, be who you are
Even when your pain leaves behind a scar
