Joys of the Sun

I wrote this on Sunday 22 May 1988, at the age of 10. Because we were going to Sunday School at the time, some of this is a bit religious although these days I am more of an Agnostic.

Oh golden ball shining from above
You are a ball that people love

You are big and bright
You give us great delight
You give life to flowers
You mark the hours
You are a treasure
Who gives us great pleasure

Oh sphere of hope, oh sphere of truth
You are the one who brings back our youth

Traversing across the sky
Look down at us from fathoms high

You light the way for Jesus the Lord
The Aztecs admired you as their God

You are someone who is great
You are someone who creates

Oh powerful star shining down
Upon countries, cities, villages and towns

Sunrise in the morning
Sunset at night
You are a charm of heart’s delight

Tremendous heat is your power
You can grow us many plants
You could make the roses flower

Your sunbeams a dancing upon the earth
You give us light and strength and mirth

Your rays are your children
Your beams are your birth
Which brings all your happiness
Down to earth

You speak of the clouds
You speak of the shade
You speak of relaxing
In a warm sunny glade

You have a friend
He is the moon
He shines every night
Upon a cool lagoon

Sometimes you are hidden
By the clouds
Then you are smitten
And your rays are no longer loud

You are a miracle sent from the Lord
From his cup of earth you were unto poured
